New Places: Exploring Trends in Hospitality and Social Spaces

 |  Events

On September 20th, the “New Places: From Hospitality to Social Spaces – The New Spaces of Experience” event will take place at the Grand Hotel Imperiale in Moltrasio, Como. This event is dedicated to exploring the evolving concept of hospitality and socialization within both public and private spaces. It will feature leading architects and innovators who will offer a fresh perspective on designing and experiencing the spaces of the future.

Event Program – September 20th

The event kicks off at 10:30 AM with welcoming remarks by Michela Locati, President of the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Conservators of the Province of Monza and Brianza, and Dr. Umberto Butti, General Manager of the Grand Hotel Imperiale. Joining them will be Architect Margherita Moioli, President of OAPPC Como, Architect Anselmo Gallucci, President of OAPPC Lecco, and Architect Elena Brusa Pasqué, President of OAPPC Varese.

This will be followed by a morning talk featuring notable figures like Alessia Galimberti, architect and founder of Alessia Galimberti Studio; Massimo Caiazzo, President of IACC Italia; and Antonio Presti, founder of Fiumara d’Arte. Each speaker will share their vision on how new hospitality spaces can emerge as areas of sharing and social inclusion.

From 2:30 to 4:00 PM, a second talk will take place with contributions from Paola Cecco, Editorial Director of Officelayout; Samuele Briatore, Director of the Academy of Etiquette; and Fiore De Lettera, founder of Planet B. These sessions will provide a comprehensive overview of emerging trends, such as the importance of creating hybrid, multifunctional spaces that are open to the community.

New Trends in Hospitality Spaces

The event is designed to explore new frontiers in transforming hospitality spaces. As Massimo Gianquitto, event moderator together with Michela Locati, points out: “Sociologists might wonder why so little has been explored in this area of research. Yet, some scholars, like Ray Oldenburg, have introduced us to the concept of ‘third places’—spaces that encourage participation in the life of local communities, organizations, and individuals.”

This reflection will pave the way for discussions on how hotels and other hospitality spaces are no longer just destinations for vacations or business trips but can become real hubs for cultural exchange and interaction.

Gianquitto will preview his speech by stating, “Hotels are striving to open up to the local community by expanding their range of services and activities to offer more lively exchanges and integration with the surrounding area.” This shift in paradigm presents a unique opportunity to rethink the design and functionality of spaces, making them more inclusive and sustainable.
